Pumpkin Patch : Kiwi kids fashion goes global

Abstract

Pumpkin Patch is a New Zealand story of rapid growth. In the space of 15 years, this children’s wear company has grown from a single person start-up to a global company listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Pumpkin Patch has been described as “a platform for growth”: incrementally expanding the global markets they operate in, starting with Australia and moving to the United Kingdom, United States, and beyond. New market openings in recent years have required Pumpkin Patch to make decisions regarding the best way to enter each market, and also the order in which to enter these markets. Operating in different markets has challenged Pumpkin Patch to adopt a multiple markets strategy. This case explores the issues and challenges associated with the above decisions.
